We Need YOUR Help with Tennessee’s Anti-pornography Resolution Today

Tennessee’s legislative resolution HJR133 has a few purposes. First, it is meant to usher in a new federal law against pornography. Right now, children have instant access to pornography 24/7. Unless a parent does an extensive amount of safeguarding all available devices (though they can’t control peers and other available networks) children can get to some of the most harmful and graphic material available in seconds. Recently, the U.K. did tremendous work in creating a new law that will shut down instant access to pornography websites through strict age-verification. It is set to implement this year.

We need a law like this in the U.S. Right now there are concerns with past precedents through Supreme Court decisions that stifle chances for the U.S. to introduce such a law. HJR133 addresses these problematic rulings in detail and urges the federal government to take action. Local legislators are helping our organization meet with Congressmen in D.C. following passage to begin a federal solution.

Secondly, the resolution formally calls out the Tennessee Internet providers to filter pornography by default for customers [porn is turned off, and only an adult customer can turn it on through ‘settings’]. This is another needed layer of protection, and THE ONE THAT IS GIVING US PROBLEMS. Lobbyists from Comcast are fighting this, though this solution is easily implemented, and financially reasonable to implement. Imagine pornography being shut off automatically for customers? This is a solution that Internet providers are already voluntarily doing around the world and is one that is needed for our children in Tennessee.
